Snowflake

The valley was dense with cumulus clouds to the south and stratus clouds to the north, east and west but the mid day sky was clear and brilliantly blue. I found a clearing in the forest and squatted down close to the blanket of snow covering the trail. I turned to the sun and let the warm rays fill me with their radiant glory. As silence enveloped me, I became aware of ringing in my ears. My attention turned to the crackling sounds that emerged from the silence all around me. It was the sound of the snow melting..

    crackling
                crackle
                            crackle
crackle
                        crackle
    crackle
            the forest came alive

as the warmth of the mid day sun transformed the crystalline ice into water.

“Only by hearing the many voices that are silenced will we recover a sense of a wider world than the one we make through our particular histories” (Kane, 1998, p. 256).
